Design of experimental protocols aimed at evaluating various higher cognitive functions (memory, learning, attention, language, emotion...) that compromise the functional connectivity of the cerebral cortex and other subcortical structures.Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) modality that allows the study of the anatomical connectivity in the normal brain as well as changes in development, aging, disease and degeneration. Alterations of water diffusion in certain brain areas are related to various diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's diseases. We have advanced processing algorithms for tractography techniques, which allow us to obtain parameters for each voxel, such as fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC).

Analysis of single-subject successive MRIs is a powerful tool to assess the neurodegeneration of the subject. This tool can also be used to scientifically assess the results of surgery interventions, drug or psychological therapies, etc. Efficient proprietary neuroimage processing techniques are applied to different time-points MRIs, reporting the longitudinal/temporal differences in paper and web format.

29.08.2012

Based on the findings of our structural knowledge database obtained from the analysis of more than 2100 MRI studies, 60% from healthy subjects and 40% from subjects with Alzheimer´s disease with different CDR (Clinical Dementia Rating) values, and thanks to the knowledge extraction techniques used, we are able to obtain a comprehensive analysis of more than 400 indicators on a MRI study of one subject. The result is a report with the findings, their relationship with the studied population, and the risk of mild cognitive impairment, or rather, as it is called now, prodromal or asymptomatic Alzheimer's disease symptoms.

29.08.2012

Voxel Based Morphometry techniques allow measurements (eg thickness, volume, density or fractal dimension) of the cortex gray matter and/or inner gray matter nuclei, allowing us to determine a huge number of morphometric measurements for more than 116 structures / brain areas, and the compare with those obtained in our own MRI population-based studies (more than two thousand MRI studies from normal subjects and with neurological or psychiatric diseases). Our proprietary algorithms based on computational intelligence techniques make possible to obtain a complete report with results, graphs and images included for MRI studies.

Design and analysis of functional brain studies. The identification of the relationships between different cognitive tasks and different brain areas is based on functional brain image processing, such as fMRI or PET. The methodology often involves complex experimental designs, the post processing of the results with different software tools and the proper use of the mathematical foundations for the extraction of reliable results.

ELENA is a multilayer technology platform capable of accommodating complex issues such as: the design, implementation and monitoring of the Neurocognitive Rehabilitation by assistive technologies. ELENA includes cognitive rehabilitation in neurological and psychiatric diseases, highlighting autism spectrum disorders, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), brain injured both head injuries like stroke, advanced age people who want to maintain their cognitive powers in the best possible condition (Healthy Aging), dementia (especially Alzheimer's disease) and professionals involved with these situations. Clearly the great social and economic significance of these diseases, and the proposed project.

Neuronavigation system which introduces several important improvements over existing competitors: The use of virtual and augmented reality, the integration of multimodality neuroimaging techniques, access to a knowledge management database which complements anatomical data with functional and connective information, state-of-the-art user interfaces (gesture and voice interfaces).

05.11.2012

We have identified the need of knowledge-based tools to extract the evidence related to the normal and pathological brain, and the importance for clinical practice, teaching and research. Hospitals, research groups, and pharmaceutical companies have a common need: multidisciplinary, verified and meta-analyzed information from scientific articles published in research journals. This need requires investment in both economic and time.
