Fast, Reliable Pathogen Identification
( Source: COMPAMED.de )
[19/06/2013] Current methods of culturing bacteria in the lab can take days to report the specific source of the infection, and even longer to pinpoint the right antibiotic that will clear the infection. A new chip speeds the tests up. Fast, Reliable Pathogen Identification - Read more
New Techniques for Faster Disease Diagnosis
( Source: COMPAMED.de )
[05/06/2013] The standard methods used for viral diseases tests are only able to estimate the number of viruses in a given volume of fluid. Now two independent teams have developed new optics-based methods for determining the exact viral load of a sample by counting individual virus particles. X-ray Tomography on a Living Frog Embryo
( Source: COMPAMED.de )
[29/05/2013] X-rays can image soft tissues throughout early embryonic development of vertebrates. Related to this, a German-American-Russian research team led by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) presented a new X-ray method. For periods of about two hours, time-lapse sequences of cellular resolution were obtained of three dimensional reconstructions showing developing embryos of the African clawed frog. Hydrogels May Enable Study of Biological Effects
( Source: COMPAMED.de )
[17/05/2013] A class of water-loving, jelly-like materials with a lot of different applications could be tapped for a new line of serious work: testing the biological effects of nanoparticles now being eyed for a large variety of uses. Hydrogels May Enable Study of Biological Effects - Read more
