Trelleborg Sealing Solutions provides five components for the new Freedom Innovation Plié™ MPC Prosthetic Knee

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions worked with US company, Freedom Innovations, to supply five components to ensure leak-free performance in a computer-controlled damper inside Freedom’s Plié™ MPC prosthetic knee.
The damper in the knee is a monotube, with air on one side and oil on the other. Inside, a Zurcon® AS Wiper keeps contamination out, while a Zurcon® L-Cup is the main rod seal, and a Turcon® Slydring® is the main piston seal. Absorbing side load, a bushing keeps the rod from hitting the sides of the damper, while a custom FKM bladder forms a barrier between the oil and the air. The result is low friction, with no stick-slip or leakage.

“We are happy to be able to help Freedom bring this product to the market,” said Jerome Zawada, Life Sciences Segment Manager for Trelleborg Sealing Solutions. “Not only will the Plié™ knee enable patients to have a more natural gait, it also allows them to become more active. We are proud to be a part of a project that enriches the lives of those who have suffered the loss of limbs.”
