Seals, Springs Improve Device Performance

Components manufactured by Bal Seal Engineering help solve difficult sealing and connecting challenges in medical devices. In insulin pumps, for example, a Bal Seal® spring-energized seal can be installed on the pushrod, which delivers dosages to the patient. The seal keeps the insulin under pressure, and prevents damage that may be caused by fluid leaking into the motor assembly. Along the outer diameter of the seal, an integrated o-ring can be employed to eliminate unwanted motion and further minimize leakage. A Canted Coil Spring™ with engineered insertion and breakaway force can be used to latch and hold the cartridge during the dispensing process.
