“It is only with the heart that one can see clearly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” This often cited quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is certainly among the most beautiful quotes from literature and applies to many a situation in life.

The latter for the longest time unfortunately also applied to physicians, who often were not able to tell what exactly was wrong with their patients. Imaging procedures which allowed us to look “inside the human being” were not discovered until Conrad Röntgen at the end of the 19th century. Since then, the development of many and ever better procedures cannot be stopped anymore.
