VTC TPE Group launch oil free thermoplastic elastomer
Elastoteknik AB, VTC
VTC TPE Group, the thermoplastic elastomer division of the Vita Group, has introduced a range of oil-free thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds to its growing Mediprene® product line.
The new compounds have been developed to address demands for transparent medical TPE grades with a minimum of potential extractables and leachables. The new products, called Mediprene® OF series, prevent the possibility of oil migrating or leaching out of the material, a key requirement for medical and healthcare-related devices. They are ideal for sensitive medical applications where transparency is also required.
Mediprene® OF thermoplastic elastomers can be supplied in hardnesses ranging from 40 to 90 Shore A. The materials exhibit flexibility over a broad temperature range and can be extruded or injection moulded.
All Mediprene® grades are sterilizable with gamma, EtO and steam and representative grades have passed cytotoxicity tests according to ISO 10993-5 and biocompatibility tests according to USP Class VI. Mediprene® thermoplastic elastomers have proven to be strong alternatives as replacement for PVC, they are completely synthetic and latex free thereby minimising allergy risks.
Niklas Ottosson, medical technical manager for VTC TPE Group commented “We offer our customers expertise at every stage of product development, from the initial concept through to application. We have developed our oil-free Mediprene® grades to give our customers further advantages in getting their product to market. The Mediprene® brand promises custom formulated, high-performance TPE solutions, supported by a consistent raw material selection policy, thorough cleaning procedures documented under ISO 13485 and knowledgeable technical support”.
VTC TPE Group will be exhibiting their oil-free Mediprene® range at ComPaMed exhibition, Dusseldorf, Germany, 19 – 21 November, Hall 8B, stand M10.
